Women In the Word Wednesdays—June 1

Well, this is my first Women In the Word Wednesday post in a while. Currently I am participating in a couple of Bible studies. One is of course the Good Morning Girls Ministry of Motherhood book club. This has been an awesome study so far. I have read through chapter 2 in the book and am SOAPing my verses each morning. Then I am emailing my group to let them know what I am learning; then they do the same. This has been so helpful for me because there are so many times that they see something in a verse that I haven’t. My group has wonderful insights to God’s word; I can only hope that I am helping them too. I am hoping that this book club will help me with the tools I need to be a better, Godly mother.
The other Bible study that I am participating in is through my church. A small group of ladies (myself included) have just started a study entitled “ The Traveler’s Handbook”. We meet once a week and the rest of the time there is “homework” that we do each night and verses each week to memorize. The two that we have been working on this week are: “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation!” ~~ Psalm 68:19 and “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ~~ 1 Thes. 5:16-18
I believe this promises to be a live-changing summer!!

Homemade White Boards

So...a while ago I received a comment on a post asking me to sometimes post about teacher-y stuff. Well, here is one of my favorite tips--actually two tips...
White boards are terribly expensive and I sure don't have the money to go out and buy a set for my class, but I love the versitility that they can bring to daily activities...so, enter the homemade whiteboard.
All it takes is a sheet protector (the kind that you slide a sheet of paper into from the top, not the side) and a piece of paper--it does not have to be white unless you want it to be :) You can write on the sheet protector with a dry erase marker and wipe it off just like any ordinary white board.
These are awesome! If you have a graphic organizer or a worksheet that you want students to do but you want to be able to re-use it, just slide it into the protector and voila---no laminate needed!
What exactly do you use to wipe these off with you ask...a used dryer sheet or shout color catcher (I cut them into smaller pieces so my stockpile last a little longer). These are also much cheaper than a class set of erasers---and you are recycling!!

A couple of tips if you are going to use this idea:
  • regular paper towels like the kinds in schools or fast food restaurants (the brown ones) do not make good erasers for these white boards...but tissues do
  • if ink builds up on the white board, just wipe it with a rubbing alcohol dampened paper towel or spray a little white board cleaner on it and wipe it dry

Menu Plan for the Week of May 30

Well, I have officially started back on cycle 2 of the 17 Day Diet, but unofficially I don’t know if I am going to stay there for 17 days. I am having a hard time with this…I feel like I am getting stuck in a rut with this diet. I am going to post my meal plan and hope for the best…
Monday: frozen meals because of multiple soccer practices after school
Tuesday: grilled chicken and veggies
Wednesday: eat out because of an out-of-town doctor’s appointment
Thursday: baked turkey tenderloin and veggies
Friday: eat out because of a retirement dinner
Saturday: eat out because I will be shopping for my trip to pick my husband up from OSUT!!!

Of course, I will not be doing a lot of grocery shopping this week since we will be eating out so much. When I eat out, I try to stick with chicken, salads, and either broccoli or green beans. I try extremely hard not to have bread. Most likely, these meals out will be a Zaxby’s salad or a Wendy’s salad (I am currently in love with their new berry and almond chicken salad).

Sunday Morning Thoughts

Memory verses from a Bible study I am participating in…

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! ~ Psalm 68:19

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ~ 1Thes. 5: 16-18

Menu Plan for the Week of May 23

Well I made it to a total loss of 20 pounds, but I gained it and lost it all last week! Oh well…This week I transition back to cycle 2 on Thursday, which means more carbs and a greater choice of lean meats every other day.

grilled chicken salad with lite honey mustard dressing (I am trying out Newman’s Own and it is yummy!)

  • grilled turkey burgers (without the bun) and veggies
  • grilled chicken with veggies (several times with different spices or marinades or sauces)
  • chicken fajitas without the tortillas—just chicken, veggies, spices, salsa, and low-fat cheese on top
  • baked tilapia with veggies
  • ground beef taco salad without the chips

Veggies to Use this Week: salad, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, green beans, asparagus, brussel sprouts, mixed veggie steamers

Sunday Morning Thoughts

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.~~Psalm 127:1

Menu Plan for the Week of May 16

I must say, last week when I started back on cycle 1, I didn’t follow it exactly. I did have a little chocolate every now and then—ok, I believe it was every day. However, the proof is in the chocolate pudding because I lost about 5 pounds, bringing my total to 19 pounds of weight gone from my body!!!!!!!! I think the difference to having chocolate everyday before this diet and while on this diet is balance. Yes, I had my chocolate, but I also stuck to the diet the rest of the time.  So, I am writing this menu plan a little different this week than I usually do…I am just going to list out my possibilities for yummy suppers for the week-not by day of the week.

  • grilled chicken salad with lite honey mustard dressing (I am trying out Newman’s Own and it is yummy!)
  • grilled turkey burgers (without the bun) and veggies
  • grilled chicken with veggies (several times with different spices or marinades or sauces)
  • chicken fajitas without the tortillas—just chicken, veggies, spices, salsa, and low-fat cheese on top

Veggies to Use this Week: salad, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, green beans, asparagus, brussel sprouts, mixed veggie steamers

Sunday Morning Thoughts

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down to estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’” ~~Luke 14: 28-30
